Your guests will remember the vows. They will also remember the hours in between: the first coffee on a lodge deck, the walk where someone spotted a bison, the conversation by the fire long after the music stopped. A wedding weekend is mostly those hours, so it helps to know how they fill.
At The Overlook at KC Bison Ranch, a wedding venue between Dahlonega and Cleveland, guests can spend the whole weekend on 61 acres with vineyards, ponds, and more than 20 bison. Five luxury lodges host up to 41 guests overnight, each with a wood burning fireplace, a premium hot tub, and a full kitchen, so welcome dinners, the wedding, and a farewell brunch all happen in one place.
As a Mountain Wedding Venue between Dahlonega and Cleveland, we sit on 61 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains with vineyards, ponds, mountain pastures, and more than 20 bison. For the guests staying with us, much of the weekend can happen right here. This is how it tends to unfold, and what they can enjoy along the way.
Five luxury lodges accommodate up to 41 guests overnight, so your immediate family and wedding party can stay on site. That is what makes us a true North Georgia wedding venue with lodging rather than a place guests visit for a few hours and then leave.
Each lodge comes with a wood burning fireplace, a premium hot tub, a fully equipped gourmet kitchen, high speed Wi-Fi, comfortable living areas, private bedrooms, and full bathrooms. The views take in vineyards, bison pastures, ponds, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. For guests traveling in from Florida or North Carolina, a hot tub and a full kitchen can matter a lot more than a hotel lobby. A family can cook a simple meal together that first night, or head outside to watch the light change over the pastures.
Our on site lodging allows you to host welcome dinners, the wedding day celebration, and farewell brunches all in one location. That means nobody has to find a restaurant, coordinate rides, or drive mountain roads after dark on the first night.
Once dinner wraps, guests can settle into the lodge living room by the indoor fireplace. It is a good place for cousins who haven’t seen each other in years to finally catch up.
Wedding mornings can feel slow for guests who aren't in the bridal party. Here, that slow pace is part of the appeal. Scenic pathways run through the property, so guests can stretch their legs before the ceremony without getting in a car.
Then there are the bison. More than 20 roam the property, and the lodge views look out over the pastures where they graze. Meanwhile, morning preparationsf happen stress free when your bridal party wakes up in our on site lodges and can enjoy coffee on the deck before getting ready. The 1,000 square foot bridal suite and the groom's lounge each have a mini fridge for refreshments.
When the ceremony begins, guests take their seats at our outdoor ceremony area with mountain and vineyard views. If the weather turns, there is an indoor ceremony backup option.
Cocktail hour moves to the covered patios, where patio heaters keep things comfortable on cooler evenings. Drinks come from our two custom bars, and our bourbon barrel standing tables give guests a spot to set a glass down while they talk. The large sliding doors open into our elegant main reception hall, with its 30 foot vaulted ceilings and ambient string lighting. It is the kind of easy indoor and outdoor flow couples look for in Georgia mountain wedding venues, and it keeps guests moving all evening comfortably. Because our all inclusive packages include coordination, catering, photography, floral package, DJ, bartending, and setup and teardown services, your guests see one team running the whole celebration.
Venue access ends at 11:00 PM, but for lodge guests the night doesn't have to. Once the Once the reception wraps, celebrations continue naturally as guests head back to their lodges and gather by the indoor fireplace for late night conversations. We wrote more about that in our post on lodge fireplaces and the guest experience.
The farewell brunch closes the weekend without anyone needing to pack up and drive somewhere new. Guests can take one last walk past the ponds, sit in the hot tub one more time, and say goodbye properly instead of in a parking lot. Morning brings soft, flattering light, so it is a good time for guests to snap a few family photos before heading home.
With room for up to 41 overnight guests, larger weddings will have some guests booking elsewhere. Accommodations beyond our five lodges and guest transportation are not included in our packages, so let guests know early. Ashley Maryanski, our Event and Vendor Coordinator, can help you think through the weekend timeline, and our planners, Kadie Hudgins, Kirstin Harper, and Rebecca Jackson, handle the execution on the wedding day.
If you are comparing North Georgia wedding venues with guests traveling in, look for one that gives them time to enjoy the place. If you would like to see the lodges, the pathways, and the pastures for yourself, we would love to show you around. Kim Chapman, a Georgia native and UGA graduate, is a first-generation rancher. To embrace this new way of life, Kim sold a successful business and left life on Lake Lanier to move to the mountains and embark on this new venture. He has a son, Kyle, and a daughter, Kaci, both in their mid-twenties. As a child, one of Kim’s favorite hobbies was collecting buffalo nickels, and he has always been a lover of big animals. This is evidenced by his canine companions, a Great Pyrenees named Prince, and a Leonberger named Samson. He is excited to offer his God-given resources to others and watch them multiply.
